Obituary for Henrietta Riordan

Henrietta Riordan
Riordan, Henrietta E. “Hettie” (nee Shoemaker) 99, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Feb. 3, 2017.

Henrietta was born in Mondovi, WI on July 6, 1917 to Alice and John Shoemaker. The fourth of ten children, she spent most of her childhood in Kentucky. She graduated from St. Vincent’s Academy in Union County KY and St Helena’s Commercial College, Louisville, KY. She married the late William Carroll Riordan February 3, 1940 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morganfield, KY.

For many years Ms. Riordan was a Registered Medical Records Librarian. She held that position at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville IN for eleven years. While there she served as the president of the Indiana Association of Medical Records, and was instrumental in the organization of the Southwestern Indiana Association of Record Librarians.

In 1959 Ms. Riordan assumed the position of Medical Record Librarian at St. John’s Hospital in St. Louis, which later moved to St Louis County to become St. John’s Mercy Medical Center. While at St. John’s she served as the president of the Missouri Association of Medical Record Librarians. She also served as Director of Medical Records, Assistant to the Administrator, with the added responsibility for insurance matters for the Medical Center. She retired in 1982.

Ms. Riordan is survived by one brother Raymond Shoemaker of Henderson, KY; daughter, Jeannine Larson (Lyle), grandchildren Lynda Rater (Joseph), Mark Larson (Betsy), Beth Millar, Dan Larson, and Kirk Larson (Jennifer); eight great-grandchildren, Connor and Cailley Millar, Jacob and Katie Larson, Stephan and Joseph Rater, Kyle and Erin Larson and one great-great-grandchild Breckon Millar.

Visitation 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Friday, February 24, at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd. Memorial Mass 10:00am, Saturday, February 25, at St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Church, 4900 Ringer Rd. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 50 Crestwood Executive Center, Suite 401, St. Louis, MO 63126 or Autism Speaks, 1060 State Road, 2nd Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540 appreciated.
