Obituary for E. Glenroy Miles

E. Glenroy Miles
Elvin Glenroy “Glen” Miles, 90, of Ballwin, MO died peacefully on Friday, July 14, surrounded by family. Glen was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and active member of his church, The Rock Church of St. Louis, Ballwin campus (formerly Ballwin Baptist).

Glen was born in Peckville, PA on February 12, 1927, the second of three children of Maurice and Grace Miles. Glen was a graduate of Blakely High School and the University of Scranton. He served as a pharmacist mate in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After graduation from the university, Glen had the unique experience of working for the same company until he retired in 1986. He first worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Irwin Neisler Co. (Decatur, IL); when the company was sold to Union Carbide (NYC) he worked in the Manhattan office and then when that division was sold to Mallinckrodt Chemical he relocated to St. Louis.

Glen was an active member of community organizations such as Kiwanis, Junior Achievement, United Way, and Gideons International, as well as the condominium board for Woodside Trails. He was particularly involved in churches he has belonged to as deacon, treasurer, usher and Sunday School teacher. His life was a witness to Christ's love: "He lived for the Lord."

Glen had a keen sense of adventure taking his family on many camping trips out west, and trips East to visit family at Wrighter Lake. After retirement Glen and Lois traveled extensively with friends and family to Hawaii, Spain, Morocco, Alaska, Florida and the Caribbean with a special fondness for St. John, U.S.V.I. He will be missed for his yellow blazer, his homemade birthday cards, his silly jokes and his beautiful prayers.

Glen is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois; their four daughters: Debbie (Al) Tung, Diane (Dan) Lauff, and Glenda (Steve) DeBrecht of St. Louis and Donna (Bob) Miles Curry of Dayton, Ohio; Grandchildren: Rob (Robin) Curry, David (Emily) Curry, Andrea (Josh) Dalton, Steven (Abby) Tung, Michael Curry, Elizabeth Tung, and Graham Lauff; and great-grandchildren: Sam, Louisa and Vivian Curry (Pinole, CA) and Harper, Afton and Molly (Louisville, Kentucky); his sister, Jean Gaudenzi (Peckville, PA); and many family and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Rock Church of St. Louis, Ballwin campus and Gideon’s International.

Visitation Sunday, August 13th, 3pm, at the Rock Church of St. Louis, Ballwin campus, 15101 Manchester Road, Ballwin, MO., 63011, immediately followed by a Celebration of Life at 4pm.
