Obituary for Lucy Bauman
Bauman, Lucy Hume, a native St. Louisan, died peacefully at age 95 on Monday, August 28, 2017. The daughter of Richard and Louise (Dierkes) Hencke, she was the widow of G. Duncan Bauman, former publisher of the St. Louis Globe-Democrat who died in 2003. Her first husband, Fred Hume Jr., a former newspaper and magazine journalist, and Assistant to the Mayor of St. Louis, died in 1971.
Lucy had an inspiring love for her family and extended family. One of six children, she attended Kirkwood High School. Married to Fred Hume Jr. in 1941, she was active as a parent leader in her children’s schools before spending 20 years working in banking. She married Duncan Bauman in 1991 and moved to The Gatesworth after his death. Lucy had a caring and generous spirit and enjoyed time with friends, playing cards, travel and attending social gatherings.
A loving and devoted mother, Lucy is survived by her four children, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The surviving children are Ted Hume of St. Louis, David Hume of Phoenix AZ, Linda (Don) Paule of Rocky Mount MO and Douglas Hume of St. Louis. Grandchildren include the children of Ted and Diane Hume – Liz (Steve) Adams and James (Lisa) Hume; the children of David (Patty) Hume – Andrew Hume (Carrie Walker); Katie Hume and Kara Hume; and Lisa (Scott) Troutt, daughter of Linda Hume Paule.
Her great grandchildren are Nicholas Hume and Patsy (Hume) Hoelscher; Kate and Sam Hinson-Hume: Bethany and Stephanie Adams; Nicholas and Benjamin Trout; and Egypt Ramos (Andrew Hume and Carrie Walker).
She was predeceased by her brother Richard Hencke and sister Mary Richards. She is survived by her brother Paul (Jeannye) Hencke of Lanham MD; sister Lois (Tom) Martin of Washington MO and brother Don Hencke of Zephyr Hills, FL.
Services: A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.Thursday, August 31, at The Church of the Annunziata, 9305 Clayton Road. A visitation before the service will begin at 9 a.m. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
