F. Burke Mees
Francis Burke Mees

May 10 1935 to August 27 2017

Faithful husband of Phyllis (Sextro) Mees and father of M. Burke Mees of Eagle River Alaska. Brother of Jane Beckmann of St. Charles Missouri, and Jim Mees of San Francisco, California.

Graduated McBride High School in 1953.
Studied geology at Rolla School of Mines. Interned with the Anaconda Copper Company in Butte Montana. Served in the U.S. Army which included spending a year on Shemya, in the Aleutian Islands.

Married Phyllis Sextro in 1964, gave birth to M. Burke Mees in 1966

Worked for Sverdrup Corporation for 40 years mostly as a resident engineer doing tunnel work. He worked on projects in downtown St. Louis, Pineville WV, Philadelphia PA, Bronx NY, Saudi Arabia, California’s Sierra Nevada Mountains, Los Angeles CA, and Puerto Rico.

In retirement, took up metal smithing, creating hand crafted silver jewelry. He volunteered at WRYT Catholic Radio for four years and prayed the Rosary daily.

He loved geology, the natural sciences, and the pursuit of knowledge.

He suffered a stroke in 2007, and died at home after a 6 month struggle with lung cancer.

Survived by many friends, cousins and former co-workers.

Visitation Wednesday, August 30, 4-7pm at Bopp Chapel in Kirkwood. Funeral Mass Thursday, 10am at St. Mary Magdalen in Brentwood. Lunch immediately after the Mass, followed by procession to Calvary Cemetery.

Masses or donations to Catholic radio (www.covenantnet.net) preferred instead of flowers.
