The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Stephen Deimeke can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Office Banter

Over the past 8.5 years I have had the pleasure to get to know Steve while working with him at Optum.  I feel honored to have known such a kind and caring soul and considered him a friend. Although anyone who knows me (including Steve as he was the sole guy in our daily group IM chat) would know that I am seldom lacking in words. It is also only fair to mention that he attributed his ability to "put up with us girls" all these years to having sisters :-)  With that said, in times like these I struggle with finding just the right words to do someone so special justice...So I decided I would start with a story as anyone who knew Steve appreciated his sense of humor.

For anyone that may not be familiar with our work environment, we are on a phone queue which involves taking numerous calls throughout the day while being as friendly and efficent as possible. As I tend to talk rather rapid, in turn my typing is rather quick as well.  Well Steve would often make comments about not being able to keep up with my pace and jokingly telling me to slow down because I was making him look bad!  Steve of course was as laid back as they come and would maintain his calm, peaceful, go with the flow attitude regardless of the situation.  This became an ongoing joke at the office and then one day he gifted me a beautiful pair of green gardening gloves. Now of course these were not just your every day gardening gloves, but he had carefully sewn rocks in the fingertips of each finger.... to slow me down of course! Despite this being many years ago I still tell this story as it still makes me laugh.

This is just one of many stories I could tell about Steve. I have the utmost respect for him for so many reasons which are too numerous to name. He was truly a one of a kind flower that could brighten anyone's garden! I will miss you my friend and may you rest in peace.
